What is a paracentric Keyway?
It’s a key profile section that is designed in high security locks to have a ‘curve’ to the keyway, with many profile wards protecting the pins hidden deep inside the lock from picking, manipulation like bumping and key copy protection from fake duplicated keys.
You’ll see in the photos below the ‘Standard’ key profile on the top right is straight, with only a few profile wards. A basic design, keys readily available, with easy access to the pins with picking tools, or bump keys in the open market.
